Here's some helpful advice from Niccum Tech's President, Lonnie Niccum:
Let's Go Phishing?
So you’re a bit of a narcissist and you thought you would Google yourself... What you find is link that says they have some elicit pictures of you and they are posted on Facebook!
Immediately, you click on the link, which takes you to your Facebook login page.
There, you enter your account info -- and a cyber-criminal now has your password, along with total control of your account. It wasn’t Facebook or its login but it looked very similar.
Ways to keep this from happening:
- Don’t “log in” on pop ups!
- Make sure your antivirus protection has anti-phishing running on it
- If you hover your mouse over a link on a webpage it will tell you the URL it is sending you to
- When you click on a link double check the URL that you were sent to matches the one you clicked
While implementing some of these actions won’t guarantee a safe cyber-surfing experience, it sure will be harder for cyber-criminals to get your info.
